I know that smile. It's the look of satisfaction a watchcat has when everything in her assigned sector is under control:
Watchcat Lily relished her role as an enforcer on August 29, 2024, and Proxy Nemo relished his chances to provide reinforcement.

Watchcat Nemo narrowed his eyes in December 2012 upon suspecting that a visitor was telling him a tall tale:
Watchcat Sylvia could have sunk into the comforter in July 2015, but she chose to stay alert instead:
In fact, she called for reinforcement from her blue jay...
...and listened carefully to the security intelligence the blue jay had gathered:I felt secure, knowing that two watchanimals were so invested in my safety.
Watchcats Rosie and Sammy had an effective strategy for deterring trespassers in July 2004. Rosie's poltergeist eyes unnerved the intruders while Sammy's conventional eyes kept tabs on what the intruders did:
Watchcat Collette didn't mind being petted on June 27, 2021...
...as long as her field of vision wasn't obstructed. That's a reasonable request for a watchcat to make.
Watchcat Lily could have gone to sleep in February 2020. She didn't, however, because she had an assigned sector to guard:
That's dedication.I intended to sit in this chair, but Watchcat Sylvia wanted to use it for guard duty in June 2011:
I didn't want to interfere with Sylvia's official watchcat duties, so I sat on the floor instead. What other devoted watchcat guardians wouldn't have done the same? The kick toy was exclusively Watchcat Nemo's property, in case anyone misunderstood that in August 2010:
Not every situation requires a watchcat to leap into action immediately. Sometimes, it's wise to study a situation first, as Watchcat Sammy did in September 2006:

You might be a weary watchcat, but if everything's under control in your assigned sector, why not allow yourself a sly expression of satisfaction? That was Watchcat Collette's thinking on August 19, 2024:
Trespassing in Watchcat Lily's assigned sector on March 22, 2021? The Cult Of Cats In Bags frowned upon this...
...and so did Watchcat Lily.
"So, stranger," Watchcat Sylvia's eyes conveyed in January 2010, "What brings you to my kitchen?" True to her generous nature, Sylvia waited for a plausible explanation before alerting Watchcat Headquarters:
The watchbird looked to Watchcat Nemo as a role model in June 2015:
In return, Watchcat Nemo showed the watchbird when to lay down the law with unauthorized visitors.
Want to learn more about the sculptures you're viewing? Ask a museum watchcat docent to guide you:
Watchcat Sammy was ready to educate museum visitors in September 2004.
Watchcat Rosie's eyes said it all in October 2005:
"Don't be offended," her expression conveyed. "Watchcat Headquarters requires me to vet your credentials before you ascend these steps."
When it comes to her assigned sector, scratching post, or dragonfly toy, there's nothing Watchcat Collette can't handle:
That was her pledge to me this morning. I admire her confidence.
On March 22, 2023, visitors knew that if they stepped out of line, Watchcat Lily would--well, stare at them from her towel guard post:
She wasn't likely to get up, as the towel was exceptionally comfortable.
Watchcat Sylvia anticipated a tranquil day of guard duty in April 2010...
...but had her claws ready, just in case.
Someone had to watch the assigned sector while Watchcat Sammy washed his paw:
Watchcat Rosie picked up the slack in May 2007.
Do you give a visitor the benefit of the doubt on why he's passing through your assigned sector? Watchcat Lily pondered this on December 17, 2021:
You don't need to be a giant of a watchcat to have an intimidating stare:
Watchcat Sylvia demonstrated this in May 2010.
Watchcat Nemo's expression in July 2014 said it all. His eyes conveyed to an unauthorized visitor, "I'm sure you must have a good reason for being here, right?! If not, this kick toy of mine makes a handy weapon:"
Watchcats who can multitask are always impressive. On July 28, 2024, Watchcat Collette did her agility training with the dragonfly toy and kept a close eye on her assigned sector, as well:
Watchcat Rosie knew how to lay down the law in July 2012:
Visitors who didn't comply with her instructions would be met with Rosie putting her other paw down on the step below her. Actually, that was just for a start.
I'm not sure why Watchcat Sammy found it necessary to keep such a close eye on himself, but I trusted his judgment in August 2003:
When you awaken a watchcat, it's reasonable for his expression to suggest, "I trust this is important:"
August 2012: Groggy Watchcat Nemo listens to the latest update on a security issue.
Based on her expression, Watchcat Lily's mindset on August 4, 2022 was, "It's satisfying to know that no one will question my authority, for I am Watchcat Lily, and I know what's best for my assigned sector:"
Watchcat Sylvia and her blue jay kept commotion in the living room under control:
They made a fine security team in July 2015.
